We are pleased to announce a special July 2026 issue of The Geneva Papers on Risk and Insurance – Issues and Practice on Insurance and Health Across the Life Course. The journal welcomes submissions related (but not limited) to the following areas:
- Health needs and insurance over the life course
How individuals’ health risks and insurance requirements change with each life stage from – youth to old age – and how these changes influence insurance design, pricing and access.
- Ageing populations and insurance product innovation
Challenges and opportunities presented by global population ageing, including the role of insurance in supporting healthcare, long-term care and retirement needs for older adults.
- Driving better longevity outcomes
How insurers can evolve to support preserving health, and preventing and managing sickness over the life course.
- Employment, retirement and fertility effects of insurance coverage across the life course
How access to health, life and long-term care insurance influences key life decisions and transitions related to employment, retirement and family planning.
- Insurance and health behaviours across the life course
How insurance coverage influences health behaviours (e.g. physical activity, diet and preventive care) and the regulatory and policy measures needed to promote equitable, accessible insurance that supports positive health behaviours.
- Insurance and mental health across life stages
Health insurance and access to quality mental health care across adolescence, adulthood and later life. Policy challenges and innovations in providing quality mental healthcare for various age groups. Insurance and preventive mental healthcare for substance abuse.
- Digital health and insurtech in life course management
Applications of digital health, data analytics and the design of personalised insurance solutions. Assessment of life course risks and ways to improve access and outcomes across age groups.
All contributions will go through a peer-review process. The guest editors for this special issue are Joan Costa-Font (London School of Economics), Christophe Courbage (Geneva School of Business Administration) and Nilesh Raut (London School of Economics). Papers should be submitted electronically via the website of The Geneva Papers (https://www.editorialmanager.com/gpri/default.aspx) by 4 June 2025 at the latest.
